Summer Science with Whitaker Center

At Whitaker Center, we think fun and learning go hand-in-hand! With school out for Summer, it is crucial to keep children engaged to prevent the “summer slide”, where children lose some of the academic skills they’ve learned during the school year. Engaging in activities, like at-home science experiments, can foster curiosity and reinforce scientific principles in a fun and hands-on way. Visiting educational destinations such as the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts provides a stimulating environment that combines learning with entertainment, allowing children to explore and expand their knowledge in a dynamic setting. These activities not only help retain academic skills but also promote a love for learning that can last a lifetime.
STEAM jobs are projected to grow 13% in the next nine years, compared to 9% for non-STEAM jobs, which means that it’s more important than ever to get students involved in STEAM to prepare them for the jobs that await them when they enter the workforce. Whitaker Center is committed to being a positive force in parent/child STEAM involvement by providing "Summer Science" segments previously aired on ABC27.
On Good Day PA, our Curriculum Manager demonstrated a science experiment called “Fizzy Fireworks”. Check out the instructions that can be printed at home!
