Jake Sherman grew up in Boston, learning how chords work by listening to his dad play Bach and quickly became obsessed with the Hammond organ, studying Dr. Lonnie Smith and began visiting Baptist churches to learn about gospel music– a non-jazz genre where the Hammond flourished. After attendingd Berklee, he toured internationally and was a part of drummer Ralph Peterson’s Unity Project. More recently Jake has been working in a duo, Jake and Abe, and has been collaborating with the great Meshell Ndegeocello on her new album.
Jake’s performance at the Thursday Afternoon series will kick off a tour in support of his new album, Jake Sherman Returns.
