Join a celebration of the global beat in this exploration of the sights and sounds of continents and cultures, guided by the internationally acclaimed performers of the sensational stage show STOMP.

Audiences travel a world brought brilliantly alive on the large-format screen and discover the universal language of rhythm. Experience a visual and auditory celebration of diversity and culture, rhythm and humanity. Audiences are introduced to percussion groups from locales and backgrounds as disparate as Timbalada of Brazil and the Kodo drummers of Japan, from the American Indian Dance Theater to the Jackie Robinson Steppers of New York. Tour a world without boundaries or prejudices and discover a global spirit of music within us all.

Thrill Ride: The Science of Fun

Explore the science and psychology of fun and people’s need for thrill seeking by tracing the history of thrill rides, beginning with early roller coasters. Go behind the scenes of high-tech motion simulators, first designed for the aerospace industry and now used for breathtaking entertainment experiences.

Hurricane on the Bayou
Opens January 13, 2007
Witness a region rich with culture, biodiversity, and the warm spirit of the Cajun and native people—then experience the fierce action of a major hurricane and its results. With local Cajun blues musician Tab Benoit, 14-year-old fiddling prodigy Amanda Shaw, and zydeco accordion master Chubby Carrier, the film captures the spirit, the vitality and the tragic fate of this land of survivors and the wetlands from which the city’s unique identity arose.

Dinosaurs 3D

Dinosaurs are among the most fascinating animals to have ever walked the Earth. We are captivated by their enormous size and intrigued by the fact that they disappeared millions of years ago. Dinosaurs 3Dtakes audiences on an unprecedented and unique 3D journey into the world of the largest known dinosaurs and, in the process, explores some of the great paleontological discoveries of modern times. Working in close collaboration with some of the world’s best paleontologists, the film unveils amazingly realistic computer-generated 3D scenes of the huge Giganotosaurus, Argentinosaurus, and more.

Whitaker Center is pleased to offer school groups of 50 or more people the opportunity to schedule a special 10:00 am showing of any film in our library on a first-come, first-served basis. The following films are currently in our library, but availability is subject to change.

Australia: Land Beyond Time
Discover the unique wildlife and rugged beauty of Australia, home to some of the strangest creatures on Earth. The world’s largest film format brings you face-to-face with the incredible wonders of Down Under.

Bugs! 3D
A live-action nature drama filmed in awe inspiring, totally immersive 3D, this film was shot on location in Borneo and in a purpose-built studio in Oxford, England. Explore the dramatic and savage lives of an Old World praying mantis and a beautiful butterfly, known by their Latin names, Hierodula and Papilio.

Cyberworld 3D
Visit a futuristic gallery of wild adventure and spectacular images, including new characters and old friends from The Simpsons and ANTZ, as this animated story becomes real and the characters leap off the screen and into the audience.

Deep Sea 3D
Be transported below the ocean surface to swim with some of the planet’s most unique, dangerous and colorful creatures, from the unusual Wolf Eel to the Giant Pacific Octopus. Come face to face with these underwater inhabitants to witness their peculiar and amazing behavior as they rely on one another for survival.

Galapagos
Journey to the famed Galapagos Islands and delve deep into the largely unknown waters surrounding the volcanic archipelago to explore the natural wonders of a realm that is truly a living natural science laboratory.

Greece: Secrets of the Past
This IMAX Experience transports audiences to places steeped in mystery and myth, yet rooted by true tales of grandeur. A modern-day story takes audiences on a journey through time to the enigmatic Greek islands and beneath the sparkling waters of the Aegean Sea.
