Art on the Curved Wall

In honor of Whitaker Center’s 10th anniversary, we’re presenting a special exhibition highlighting some of the artists from Whitaker Center Art on the Curved Wall shows in years past. The 10th Anniversary Retrospective Exhibition is the perfect way for us to say thank you to all of our artists, appreciators, members, and patrons.

It’s a short but fanciful walk down memory lane if you have viewed the Annual Whitaker Center exhibit each year. You’ll recall artists and their unique styles and mediums from such popular exhibits as; “That Having been Said…” and “Burt Lancaster and Biruta Akerbergs Hansen” in 2001, “Being City” and “Feeling their Way” in 2002, “Future in Wax” in 2003, “Drawing from Life” in 2004, “Optical Illusions and Visual Trickery” in 2005, “Turning Out” in 2006, “Community: Global Neighborhoods” featuring artists from Nicole Galleries of Chicago, IL in 2007, “Anatomical Insights” in 2008 among others.

What make the artists selected for a Whitaker Center exhibition so special? The answer is that many of them have a strong interest in the sciences, cultural arts, or teaching their craft, a science in itself. This complexity in interests translates through the artwork that in turn captures, holds, and stirs the viewer, sparking a conversation with oneself or a companion about technique, materials, color, imagery, and their own ideas. What better way to achieve our mission than by searching for these artists and sharing them with you, our viewers. It is with deep appreciation and thanks that I must recognize the long standing cooperation and friendships of these artists and members of Whitaker Center’s Visual Art Advisory Committee; Art Association of Harrisburg, Art Center School and Galleries of Mechanicsburg, Jump Street, and Doshi Gallery for Contemporary Art of the Susquehanna Art Museum. Without them the bi-monthly, rotating exhibitions displayed in the public lobbies year-round, would not be possible.
